Though Winter has always been picturesque, I’ve never been more happy to see the sun come up everyday. The blues are slowly fading.
Apparently, this year, meggings (or uncomfortably tight leggings for men) are all the rage in the fashion world. While I don’t mind seeing incredibly amazing asses (especially on Ryan Lochte), this trend is better off thrown into a time traveling machine to the Middle Ages ’cause it just screams bum bandit to me. Well, unless you’re gay of course.. In which case, go ahead and wear it. We girls do need some innocent once overs.
Have I ever told you guys how much I hate hipsters? No? Well, let me tell you this story about a girl minding her own business in the streets of Chicago. One wonderful day, with the wind softly blowing and the warm sun shining, you would think that the day would go swimmingly well. But no, a Cary Grant, vintage glasses and oxford wearing impersonator with that perfectly coiffed hair and impeccable suit decided to ride a rundown bike in the intersection fast like he was making sure people don’t start noticing him and deciding that riding a bike during the winter is cool (which it’s not). This of course, results in an accidental foot hit and run which he does not even apologize for, ruining the day of the said girl.
Now with the Lollapalooza single-day tickets selling like hotcakes, I just know fucking hipsters were the reason for the 30 minute wait time before I finally got off the standby page and went on to the ticket page. I’ve never felt more scared that I won’t get tickets. Hipsters should just stay at home. I’ll even lend them my vinyl record player.
(Okay, I have a lot of hipster friends and I do love them.. Until they annoy me and then I just want to cut out all their plaid shirts and give them “not skinny” jeans.)
The one thing that fueled me during my finals week was the thought that after all the hard work, I get to go to Ultra Music Festival and see all my favorite DJs! It did not disappoint. I had so much fun with my Filipino friends. Though I do love my foreign buddies, it’s still a different atmosphere hanging out with your fellow countrymen.
Our three-day adventure started with just me, Annie, Frank and Clarence. Unfortunately, Gavin and Justine were still stuck in reality so they missed half of the awesome first day experience. Preparing for UMF (Ultra Music Festival) was a struggle. As a girl, I always tend to bring more items than needed. Just in case, you know?
Anyways, my guy friends brought Camelbaks which was a saving grace for everyone. It’s a backpack that holds about 80 ounces of water with a long straw coming out from the side. Perfect for long hours in crowds and better than carrying a water bottle. On the other hand, I brought..
(Thanks to my friend, Camie, for the layout inspiration.)
- UMF ticket – This is the most important item in your bag. Do not lose it!
- Wet wipes and hand sanitizer – These will be your best friends when you want to visit the portable potties. I do not need to tell you how disgusting and dirty that human sized green box is.
- Diffraction glasses – You don’t really need these but they give out such a cool effect with the lights that may enhance your Ultra experience.
- Gum – For that uncontrollable urge to chew something when hanging out with Molly. *wink*
- ID that says you’re over 21 – If you want to buy drinks.. But honestly, their alcohol choices are limited and so expensive, you’re better off without it.
- Vaporub – Rub a little on your nose when you go to the restroom and it will mask the bad odor. Also, this will help clear your airway when you feel suffocated around the crowd.
- Cash – To buy food, drinks or other stuff you might want.
- Lighter and smokes – For friends.. (As a girl, you tend to hold all your guy friends’ stuff. It’s part of the description.)
Before, I used to think that girls in EDM festivals were too scantily dressed. I never understood the concept of wearing bikinis and short shorts. But oh boy, did I find out why. Being in that place was like being in a sauna. Shorts, bikini top or a loose tank with sneakers is the best way to go. Preferably in light colors but not white.
It’s that time of year when we waste a couple of hours watching the Golden Globes (which is not as good as the Academy Awards but since we don’t have anything better to do, it’s okay for now). Part of watching the event is spending a few minutes criticizing people on the red carpet and picking out our Best Dressed celebrity.
Drum roll, please.
The best dressed is…
Julianne Hough, the lead star of “Rock of Ages” and Ryan Seacrest’s girl, stuns us in a Monique Lhuillier gown. She’s the perfect little swan princess. Appropriate too for she début her career in the show, “Dancing with the Stars”. What I liked most about her whole look is her hair, which gave us a more modern rocker twist.
Now, for me.. The worst dressed is a tie between…
Kaley Cuoco, who I absolutely adore, just needs to remove that sash on her waist, opt for a nude lipstick and clear nail polish. The whole vampire-slash-witch thing is not working for her.
2013 is going to arrive in a few hours and I want to make sure you remember things before you start the new year.
First, take a deep breath and just do it. If you think you can’t do it, think again. As humans, we feel everything so deeply that when we start feeling fear, it doesn’t stop. Oh, I’m not invincible. I’ve had my fair share of being too scared of the consequences that I ended up not doing something I badly wanted to do. But what are we really scared of exactly? That we’ll fail? That people would leave us? That we’ll end up with a blonde afro and a fake tan? Well, I’ll let you in on a secret. These things don’t kill us. Chances are, you’ll live. You probably lived through some of these obstacles already. So I say it’s alright to feel scared but don’t let it stop you from taking a chance because that failure maybe the push you need to get to the road to success. Those people who left? Maybe they were never meant to stay anyways and that mistake of getting a blonde afro and a fake tan? Nicki Minaj, pop star, need I say more?
Second, cherish your family and your friends. In this lifetime, they will be the biggest support you’ll have. Sometimes, it’s fate to have them. Other times, you create the opportunity to get to know them. Nonetheless, they are like your wings. Because with them, you’ll feel like you’re flying in heaven — if heaven is a beautiful day, dancing to amazing music, laughing and genuinely being happy.
Thirdly, don’t compare yourself. You are beautiful in your own right. Everyone has something to offer and remember that weaknesses can always be combated.
Fourth, don’t be in a rush to find “the one”. They will be there when you’re ready. Learn to love yourself first. Grow as a person. Know what you want in life. Be successful. Go out, enjoy and meet new people!
And lastly, know that there is no beautiful future where all are equal and no one cries. There is a future where you win and the one where you lose. It is all a matter of how you fight for your happiness. Although, you’re scared of what 2013 would bring, remember that 2012 has made you a stronger person. Go and win. Live life the way it was supposed to be lived.. With your eyes on the stars, feet on the ground and so much love in your heart ready to share to everyone.
